María Teresa Vázquez

Maria Teresa Vazquez is a visual artist whose practice spans painting, drawing, alternative photography processes, and digital art. Drawing on influences from both realism and surrealism, Vazquez work delves deeply into her personal connection to her ethnic identity, exploring the complex intersections of culture, memory, and self-perception. Through a diverse array of mediums, her art invites viewers to reflect on the layered narratives that shape individual and collective experiences.

Vazquez earned her Associate’s degree in Fine Art from Lone Star College and went on to complete her Bachelor’s degree of Studio Arts with a minor in Scientific Illustration at Texas Woman’s University. Throughout her education, she developed a unique artistic voice that bridges traditional and contemporary techniques, blending the tactile and the digital. Her work has been featured in numerous group exhibitions, including at Texas Woman’s University and various venues throughout Houston, her hometown. Vazquez's ability to experiment with alternative photographic processes, coupled with her background in painting and drawing, has earned her recognition for her innovative approach to visual storytelling.

Currently based in Denton, Texas, Maria Teresa Vazquez continues to explore the emotional and cultural complexities that define her artistic journey. Her works engage with themes of identity, history, and transformation, offering a nuanced perspective on the ways in which personal and collective histories shape one’s sense of self. 

Vazquez hopes to continue her education and obtain her Master's in Fine Arts at Texas Woman's University.
